Application/Recruitment Process FAQs
How do I apply for a job with URS?
The best way to submit your resume is by selecting the position you are interested in pursuing under the “positions” link page and apply. You will be directed to our online career centre where you will be able to complete your online application (including copying and pasting a copy of your resume). If you have any problems completing this process, please complete the contact us form and one of our recruiters will contact you to provide you with assistance
 
Can I email you my application?
As a large global company, we have designed an online recruitment system to better manage the application process for all open positions at URS. This ensures no applications are misplaced and that all HR and recruitment personnel can easily access your information. If you have any problems applying, please let us know through the contact us page.
 
Can I apply for more than one job at a time?
Absolutely. You are welcome to apply for any of our job vacancies that you believe match your skills/experience and you are interested in pursuing.
 
Will I hear about my application?
Yes. We are committed to responding to every application. You will be contacted directly via email from one of our recruiters.
 
What happens after I apply for a job?
After you submit your online application we will assess your application and inform you as soon as possible if your application will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.
 
What if I am not successful?
If you are not successful, we will retain your resume in our database for future reference. This global database will allow URS recruiters to contact you if there are any future suitable positions. You are also encouraged to refer to our online career centre www.ap.urscorp.com/careers to search on all URS vacancies around the world.
 
What if I do not see a job that I am suitable for?
Even if there isn’t a position listed at this point in time, please register your details on our system, www.ap.urscorp.com/careers so we can contact you for future positions. You can also create job agents that will allow us to automatically notify you of when a position that suits your criteria is listed by URS.
 
Where will interviews be conducted?
The first rounds of interviews will be conducted over the phone and the second round via teleconference or additional phone interviews
 
Who will be conducting interviews?
Interviews will be conducted by an Internal Recruiter and a relevant technical field professional

What is the recruitment process?
There will be several steps in the recruitment process:

  • 1st round phone screens with a recruiter;
  • Technical interview (over the phone) with relevant manager;
  • Reference checks;
  • Final round interviews if necessary;

When are the public holidays in New Zealand?

What is the health care system like in New Zealand?
New Zealand’s health care system is very good by world standards. All essential health care is provided free through the public health system and comprehensive life-long medical care is available to everyone. Various routine services, such as visits to local doctors and dentists, have to be paid for however, more expensive services, such as hospital treatment are, with a few exceptions, available free to all residents. Can I bring my pets?
Yes, in most cases, dogs and cats are permitted (with appropriate quarantining) but most other pets such as fish, birds, turtles, etc, are not. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries website www.maf.govt.nz will give you all the official information you need.
 
What is the climate like?
Being in the Southern Hemisphere, our seasons are completely opposite to countries north of the equator. Winter lasts from June until August and our summer is between December and February. Overall, our temperate climate ranges from 20–30°C (68–86°F) in summer, and from 5–15°C (41-59°F) in winter.
 
What side of the road do you drive on?
Throughout all of New Zealand you drive on the left-hand side of the road. Cars are left-hand drive and it is advised that you take the time to familiarise yourself with the local road rules before getting in a vehicle.
 
Will I need to get a new drivers license?
If you have a driver’s licence in your home country or an international driving permit (IDP), you can drive in New Zealand for a maximum of one year. After one year you’ll need to apply for a New Zealand driver’s licence.
By law you must always have your licence with you when you’re driving. You’ll only be able to drive the same types of vehicles you’re licensed to drive in your home country. The minimum legal age to rent a car in New Zealand is 25 years.

How long do I have to commit for?
We are preferably looking for individuals that are looking for a long term commitment. We anticipate that once you come out to Australia you will want to stay!

What can I expect to be paid?
URS’ remuneration is based on position. We always aim to be competitive with the market. On top of your base salary you will be eligible for various other entitlements.
 
What information do I have to provide for a visa?
Generally, you will need to provide soft copies of passport information for each applicant, evidence of your relationship to each family member included, and documentary evidence of your skills and employment experience. We will advise you personally of additional documents and information or translations needed as this can vary depending on your circumstances.
 
What is superannuation?
Superannuation is a scheme that allows employees to invest funds towards their retirement. Employees are able to take a salary sacrifice to obtain the benefit of reduced taxation on fund investments. Deductions can be made from payroll and paid directly to the fund. The Company will match employee contributions up to a set amount within the scheme.
 
Is superannuation compulsory?
No, however URS New Zealand does provide a superannuation scheme to all employees.
 
How much annual leave am I entitled to?
You are entitled to 20 days paid annual leave per year. You will also have 11 paid public holidays in addition to this annual leave.
 
How much sick leave am I entitled to?
You are entitled to 5 days paid sick leave per year after the first 6 months of continuous employment and an additional 5 days paid sick leave after each subsequent 12 month period. Any unused leave is automatically accumulated over the period of your service with the company.
 
Will URS assist me in relocating to New Zealand?
Yes. In addition to paying for your visa, URS will pay for airflights for you and your family, organise temporary accommodation for when you arrive in New Zealand and provide some assistance with costs in transporting your personal effects to New Zealand.
